Robert Lightner writes: Those who think the sinner must make Christ Lord of his life, or at least promise to do so, before he can be saved make assurance rest on the evidence of a surrendered walk. MacArthur cites this as the only way a believer can be assured of his or her salvation.
15 Μαρ 2024 · Assurance of salvation is the knowledge and confidence that one belongs to Christ (1 John 5:13). Christians find assurance through many means, including their faith. In fact, the Bible defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for” (Heb. 11:1).

The way in which we persevere in faith and thereby maintain assurance of salvation is by taking seriously the glorious promises and the terrible threats found in Scripture (cf. Hebrews 10:19-31; also Deuteronomy 28). Pastor John & Pastor Tom
In summary, one's assurance of salvation does not need to be based on a past decision or an experience. It should rest first of all on one's faith in the objective truth of God's Word, Jesus Christ, and the gospel.
