This government orphanage takes care of 20 elephants. Low entry fee, and you get to see the elephants up close.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was formed in 1975 by Sri Lanka Wildlife Department, in a twenty-five-acre coconut property beside the Maha Oya River. The operations of this site began by rescuing and nurturing five abandoned baby elephants from the dense forests of Sri Lanka.
