For many people, AFib may have no symptoms. But AFib may cause a fast, pounding heartbeat, shortness of breath or light-headedness.
What causes Afib? Changes or damage to your heart’s tissue and electrical system cause atrial fibrillation. Usually, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure or heart failure can cause these changes. Other causes include heart valve issues, hyperthyroidism or excessive alcohol use.
