18 Απρ 2019 · In early 2017, investigators from PREFER in AF (European Prevention of Thromboembolic Events–European Registry in Atrial Fibrillation) found that the risk of SSE was the highest in individuals with diabetes mellitus treated with insulin compared with those not on insulin treatment (5.2% versus 1.8%; HR, 2.96; 95% CI, 1.49–5.87) and those ...

7 Δεκ 2021 · Non-paroxysmal AF is associated with an increased risk of complications. Diabetes contributes to AF initiation, yet its role in AF maintenance is unclear. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize the evidence regarding the association of diabetes with AF types.
The Framingham Heart Study, a long-term prospective cohort study, was one of the first to demonstrate an increased risk of AF in men and women with diabetes (5). In a meta-analysis of several cohort and case-control studies, patients with diabetes had a 34% greater risk of developing AF (6).
18 Ιαν 2020 · Individuals with type 2 diabetes had an overall 35% higher risk of atrial fibrillation compared to age- and sex-matched controls from the general population. The excess risk for atrial fibrillation increased with renal complications or with poor glycaemic control.
10 Νοε 2021 · In this multicenter cohort study of 2411 patients with documented atrial fibrillation, we found that patients with diabetes less often perceive atrial fibrillation symptoms, although they have worse quality of life and more cardiac and neurological comorbidities than patients without diabetes.
14 Μαρ 2022 · Atrial fibrillation (AF) and diabetes mellitus (DM) constitute two major closely inter-related chronic cardiovascular disorders whose concurrent prevalence rates are steadily increasing. Although, the pathogenic mechanisms behind the AF and DM comorbidity are still vague, it is now clear that DM precipitates AF occurrence.
24 Σεπ 2023 · We reveal that T2DM can influence the electrical and structural properties of the atria through multiple pathways, including oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, connexin remodeling, glycemic variability, and autonomic dysfunction.
