WV DMV offers a free ATV rider safety awareness course. ATV Safety instructions can also be obtained through the WVU Extension Offices. All ATV operators 18 and under must obtain safety instruction at the local DMV or another approved location to receive an ATV safety card and helmet sticker.
West Virginia law requires owners to have their ATVs titled in order to ride on public lands. If you are planning on riding your ATV or UTV on the streets, you must have it registered as a “street-legal special purpose vehicle” under the new law passed in March of 2020.
