In general, you are not permitted to operate an ATV or UTV on a public street in West Virginia. This includes all highways and any street with a center line or more than two lanes. So basically, you can ride an ATV or UTV on a single or two-lane road without a center line.
This official training program is developed to meet the standards for ATV safety education established by West Virginia. Offroad Ed is the only safety course provider that develops print materials on behalf of government agencies responsible for ATV laws and regulations.
West Virginia law requires owners to have their ATVs titled in order to ride on public lands. If you are planning on riding your ATV or UTV on the streets, you must have it registered as a “street-legal special purpose vehicle” under the new law passed in March of 2020.
