30 Οκτ 2015 · The average ocean depth is 3,682 meters (12,080 feet), according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Ocean Service (source). Highlights from the National Geographic’s Video. The video above covers Cameron’s descent to the Mariana Trench in one minute. 0-660 feet (0-200 meters): 90% of ocean life lives here.
Earth’s surface is dominated by the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, and Southern oceans, which together cover some 71 percent of the planet and whose average collective depth is 12,100 feet (3,688 meters).
The ocean's average depth is 4000m (2.5miles), making this zone the most extensive living environment on Earth! "It covers over 300,000,000 square km (115,000,000 miles)–about 83% of the ocean’s total area and 60% of Earth’s surface."
The average depth of the ocean is 3,790 m, a lot more shallow than the deep trenches but still an incredible depth for sea creatures to live in. There are three major factors that make the deep ocean hard to inhabit: the absence of light, low temperature, and extremely high pressure.
The average depth of the ocean is about 3,682 meters (12,080 feet). The lowest ocean depth on Earth is called the Challenger Deep and is located beneath the western Pacific Ocean in the southern end of the Mariana Trench.
27 Φεβ 2024 · Using such tools as sonar, radar and satellite technology, scientists have calculated that the global ocean has an average (mean) depth of approximately 12,785 feet (3,897 meters). That works out to around 2.4 miles, or 3.8 kilometers.
