Wave period is the time between the passage of one wave crest and the next. The arrow direction is the direction the waves are moving towards... Latest forecast. Windsea: significant wave height and mean direction. Significant windsea wave height can be shown to correspond to the average wave height of the top one-third highest windsea waves.

What ocean wave forecast products are provided? Variables predicted by the IFS include the full two-dimensional wave spectra, significant wave height, mean wave period and mean wave direction.
Waves near tropical storms. In the IFS, there is an active two-way coupling between the atmosphere and ocean waves - surface wind stress generates the waves and in turn the waves modulate the wind stress. The ECWAM generally forecasts realistic wave parameters (wave height, period etc).
Period: the time it takes for two successive crests to pass a given point. Frequency: the number of waves passing a point in a given amount of time, usually expressed as waves per second. This is the inverse of the period. Speed: how fast the wave travels, or the distance traveled per unit of time.
7 Μαρ 2011 · Ocean Surface Wave Generation. Waves important to offshore structure design and operation: Wind waves or gravity waves with wave period T= 5 ~ 20 seconds, wavelength O(10)m to O(500)m. When wind input energy is smaller than dissipation, waves decay. Short waves decay faster.
5 Φεβ 2005 · Design often requires only a synthesized description of the wave spectra by means of the three main integral wave parameters: significant wave height (H s), mean (zero-upcrossing) wave period (T m), and mean wave direction. Also, validations and comparisons of observations from different sources are often limited to these quantities.
