10 Φεβ 2020 · The latest federal data show New York's public school system has the highest per-pupil spending of any state; New York City has the highest per-pupil spending among the nation’s 50 largest school districts; and New York teachers have the highest average pay while pupil-teacher ratio is among the lowest.
2 Ιαν 2020 · That’s down from a national average of $61,804 in 2009-10 and $59,426 in 2015-16. Average earnings for full-time teachers vary considerably from state to state, and even within states. Salaries are lowest in Mississippi, where educators made $42,925 in 2016-17, on average. New York paid the highest average salary — $79,637, NCES data show.
New York City is more diverse than its public schools. The city’s public schools are largely (83.9%) nonwhite. But 171,791 white students, 52% of all white students in the city, attend private schools.
Our latest comparison is based on the just completed 2014-2015 school year, in which traditional public schools received $17,928 on average for each general education student. Since our last report, based on the 2009-2010 school year, charter schools have lost ground to traditional public schools:
