Florida has the third largest prison population in the US with over 87,000 in state prison. Thousands more are incarcerated in Florida jails. Florida’s incarceration rate of 662 inmates per 100,000 adult residents is substantially higher than the national average of 537.
As of December 31, 2020, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of Florida correctional authorities was 81,027 located in 143 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. Florida operated facilities had a staff of 25,154 employees and a budget of $4,918,224,703.

In state prisons, the distribution of male and female prisoners remained unchanged between 2004 and 2016. Te average age of all prisoners in the United States was 39 in 2016. Te majority of state prisoners were ages 25 to 44 (58%): about a third were ages 25 to 34 (32%) and a quarter were ages 35 to 44 (26%).

The facility grades are medical (M) grades 1, 2, and 3, and psychology (S) grades 1, 2, and 3. FSP consists of a Main Unit and West Unit which is currently closed.1.
As reported, there were an estimated 55,150 inmates in Florida's county detention facilities during the month of October 2021. In comparison, in October 2020, there were 48,602 inmates incarcerated by county facilities in Florida. This is a 13.5% increase from last year.
20 Δεκ 2022 · Highlights. After a 37% decrease from midyear 2019 to midyear 2020, the number of females confined in local jails increased 22% from 2020 to 2021. The number of males increased 15% from 2020 to 2021. The racial and ethnic composition of local jail inmates remained stable from 2020 to 2021.
