23 Ιουλ 2020 · The California Avocado is a native American plant with a long, distinguished history. Today, the most popular variety is the Hass. The mother tree of all Hass Avocados was born in a backyard in La Habra Heights, California. Avocado History. The avocado (Persea americana) originated in south-central Mexico, sometime between 7,000 and 5,000 B.C.
The first plantings of avocado in California probably occurred around 1850. It was reported in the California State Agricultural Society Report for 1856 that an avocado tree was grown by Dr Thomas White in San Gabriel (Butterfield 1963).
28 Σεπ 2018 · California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation declaring the avocado the state fruit in 2013, and the avocado has soared beyond being a topping for toast. It’s a chef’s favorite for a variety of dishes, even featured in smoothies and ice cream.

15 Οκτ 2014 · The value of U.S. avocado production increased from $ 479.1 million in 2010 to $ 492.1 million in 2011. The total volume amounted to 226,450 t, an increase of more than 52,120 t from 2010. According to NASS (2012), the California avocado crop jumped to 195,000 t, while the Florida crop rose to 31,100 t.
