God promised to send into the world a Saviour to free man from his sins and to reopen to him the gates of heaven. The Saviour of all men is Jesus Christ. The chief teaching of the Catholic Church about Jesus is that He is God made man. Jesus Christ is God because He is the only Son of God.
Why did God make you? A. God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in heaven. While the start of The Baltimore Catechism might seem simplistic and elementary, it addresses very deep philosophical questions.
