Preliminary plans were unveiled in May 2017, involving three buildings in geometric shapes covered in light-colored stone, roughly 200,000 to 225,000 square feet (18,600 to 20,900 m 2). The museum building (which will also include educational and meeting space) will be the tallest at 180 ft (55 m).
At the Library Building, workers are starting to work on the new Chicago Public Library and its Reading Courtyard. On the Library rooftop, workers poured the concrete walls and roof for the Fruit & Vegetable Garden Pavilion, which will include a teaching kitchen and public restrooms.
3 Μαΐ 2017 · As promised, initial designs for the Obama Presidential Center by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects were released today. The Center will be composed of three buildings—the Museum, the Forum, and the Library—that surround a rectangular plaza.
The Center is designed as a campus integrated with landscape, comprising a museum tower, forum building and library surrounding a public plaza. Each component is individually accessible on the plaza level, yet all are connected below-grade.
