The Barn Owl holds a unique and mysterious allure for Irish people. Their dark, soul-piercing eyes and bloodcurdling screech are almost other-worldly. 20 Σεπ 2016 · There are certain characteristics of an ideal Barn Owl habitat. These habitat traits typically revolve around two key functions which are closely connected in purpose: food and reproduction.
Species Information Sheet. Barn Owl. (Tyto alba) Habitat: Barn Owls prefer a mixed farming habitat with spinneys, ditches, rough pastures and well-managed field margins. Grassland makes good hunting ground, along with hay meadows. They are often found around farm buildings, barns and the edge of villages.
The Barn Owl has a very pale golden-buff coloured back laced with silver grey and is very white underneath. It has a heart-shaped white face. An adult Barn Owl is about 33 cm. high with a wing-span of approximately 85 cm. Barn Owls have superb sight and hearing which enables them to catch their prey in the dark.
Barn Owl features and adaptations. Small stiff feathers around the face. Neck not visible. Females have spotted chests and males are all white. Feathers are white the under parts light brown and on the back. Four toes with long talons. One talon a comb to groom face feathers. and hearing.
