Therapeutically, MMT addresses response deficits and excesses within and across the BASIC I.D. and rests on a social and cognitive learning theory foundation.
BASIC I.D. refers to the seven dimensions of personality according to Lazarus. Creating a successful treatment for a specific individual requires that the therapist consider each dimension, and the individual's deficits in each.
Lazarus demonstrates how his preliminary BASIC ID assessment rapidly and accurately helps target areas for therapeutic focus. This video features a client portrayed by an actor on the basis of actual case material.
Using the easy-to-remember mnemonic acronym BASIC ID (taken from the initial letters of the foregoing modalities), the multimodal framework emphasizes the discrete and interactive impact of these seven modalities.
Lazarus suggested the acronym BASIC ID to identify the specific dimen sions that usually need attention in the counseling process. These dimen sions include: behavior, affect, sensation, imagery, cognition, interper sonal relations, and diet/drugs/physiology.
