26 Φεβ 2024 · We will be making history at this event. The 1st Illinois Light Artillery Battery D fired 72 rounds with their four 24 Pdr. Field Howitzers at Raymond in May of 1863. We will fire round No. 73 on April 13th on the battlefield with a 24 Pdr. Field Howitzer. You too can be a part of history by firing that 73rd round.

The Battle of Raymond was fought on May 12, 1863, near Raymond, Mississippi, during the Vicksburg campaign of the American Civil War. Initial Union attempts to capture the strategically important Mississippi River city of Vicksburg failed.
Confederate officers lead troops into battle. Confederate Army prepares to attack during the Battle of Raymond. The soldier wearing the red shirt was immediately riddled with Union bullets.
