If you are in your first 13-24 months of licensure in California and renewing your license for the first time, use this chart to help you determine the number of continuing competency hours required (if you are not a new licensee use the chart below under NOT a New Licensee).
A license to practice physical therapy must be renewed every two years. The expiration date is the last day of the licensee's birth month. A renewal notice is processed approximately 90 days prior to the expiration date of the license.

As outlined in the Physical Therapy Board of California's (PTBC) Continuing Competency Regulations, all hours used towards license renewal must be taken through a provider that has received approval by a California Recognized Continuing Competency Approving Agency, including the CPTA.
The Physical Therapy Board of California's (PTBC) regulates continuing competency standards for the physical therapy profession in California. Every California licensed PT and PTA must earn 30 contact hours or 3.0 CEUs during their license renewal period.
