The natural-color images above show Lake Powell in the late summer of 2017 and 2021, as observed by the Operational Land Imager on Landsat 8. The September 2017 image was chosen because it represents the highest water level (3,630.76 feet) from the past decade.
3 Αυγ 2023 · LAKE POWELL, Utah — Bird’s-eye photos from the European Space Agency‘s Copernicus SENTINAL-2 satellites captured the dramatic rise of Lake Powell’s water levels this summer. The satellites began taking photos of the southern Utah reservoir lake on March 18 with the final photo being taken on July 16.
Heavy snowfall in the Rocky Mountains in the winter and spring of 2019 provided a much-needed pulse of meltwater into Lake Powell, the second largest reservoir (by maximum water capacity) in the United States.
