For a wooden window framing, the rough opening size will be 2 inches wider and 2 inches taller than the actual size of window. For example if you are installing 30"×36" wooden window, their rough opening size will be 32"×38".

Allow a small 1/2 to 1-inch margin for fitting. Common rough openings for standard sizes like 36×48 inches are approximately 37-37.5 inches in width and 49-49.5 inches in height.
