9 Ιουλ 2019 · In 1862 the New York Times reported the county seat of Raleigh County is called Raleigh on the maps, but its name has since been changed to Beckley C. H. A newspaper article of May 22, 1862, called it Raleigh Court House.

The U.S. state of West Virginia has 55 counties. Fifty of them existed at the time of the Wheeling Convention in 1861, during the American Civil War, when those counties seceded from the Commonwealth of Virginia to form the new state of West Virginia. [1]
