The BD-4C is a greatly improved four seat model with 1,200 lb (544 kg) empty weight and 2,400 lb (1,089 kg) gross weight. Estimated construction time is 700 hours. Two models completed and flown by 2011 with kits currently being assembled around the world.
The Bede BD-4 is an American light aircraft, designed by Jim Bede for homebuilding and available since 1968. It was one of the first homebuilt aircraft to be offered in kit form. [ 1 ] It remains one of the world's most popular homebuilts with thousands of plans sold and hundreds of examples completed to date.
John Holland's homebuilt airplane that has continually negated his need for a production craft is a BD-4. This slab-sided, Hershey bar winged wonder first appeared as plans in 1968 and began showing up in people's driveways as big kit boxes in 1970.
19 Αυγ 2022 · The Bede BD-4 was designed by Jim Bede in the late 60’s with a first flight in 1968. I actually got to attend a few of his aircraft design workshops at Oshkosh in the early 2000’s. The design features all metal construction with some innovative construction methods such as a un-braced tubular spar and a truss fuselage sheet-ed in aluminum.
13 Ιουν 2018 · Jim Bede designed the BD-4 to exceed the Part 23 structural standards for Normal and Utility category aircraft, and at 1400 pounds gross weight, Acrobatic (with acro not recommended). He introduced it at EAA Rockford in 1968, and it was ahead of its time.
