Ping Pong The Animation aired on Noitamina for 11 episodes, from April 11, 2014, to June 20, 2014. Just like the manga, and live action movie before it, it was a critical success, taking home the animation of the year award in the 2015 Tokyo Anime Award Festival.
When I decided to watch Ping Pong: The Animation, it had one main draw for me: it was the latest show by director Masaaki Yuasa, and I've loved just about everything he's put out, with The Tatami Galaxy taking the cake as one of the best-composed anime series I've ever watched.
This is one of those anime where tagging it under a genre is unfair, simply because it is unlike any sports anime out there. The sport here (ping pong) was merely a plot device to tell a magnificent story about a bunch of very relatable individuals.
