Beryllium Copper SAFETY DATA SHEET 4 FIRST AID MEASURES General Measures: Under normal handling and use, exposure to solid forms of this material present few health hazards. Subsequent operations such as grinding, melting or welding may produce potentially hazardous dust or fumes which can be inhaled or come in contact with the skin or eyes.
Beryllium: The beryllium in this product is not known to cause acute health effects. Inhaling particulate containing beryllium may cause a serious, chronic lung disease called Chronic Beryllium Disease (CBD) in some individuals. See section 3.2.5 Chronic (long-term health effects).
In their 2014 official statement on the Diagnosis and Management of Beryllium Sensitivity and Chronic Beryllium Disease, the American Thoracic Society states that “it seems prudent for workers with BeS to avoid all future occupational exposure to beryllium.”
