Yes, there is little room for error using a tighter choke, however, it will make you a better pointer/shooter in the long run. For singles and handicap, I shoot a .038" choke, and for doubles I shoot a .020/.034" choke setup....

17 Αυγ 2019 · A more open choke will give...at normal 16 yard trap distances....a larger effective pattern. If you don't need a larger effective pattern, if you always center the bird, then use Full, as it won't matter.
2 Αυγ 2013 · I always enjoy hearing choke preferences from shooters with D Singles averages. Big Leo says FULL. There are differences in pattern quality with chokes marked MOD. I prefer smoke with a Wilkinson .024 choke but broke my highest Singles average (98.28) with factory FULL (.034).

2 Αυγ 2022 · In singles, a shooter with good eyesight/fast target acquisition and fast reflex/response can get by with less than the full choke as the bird is taken somewhere around 30 yards away for alot of shooters where modifieds work nicely.
In my experience most trap shooters prefer to use an Improved Modified choke, because the average distance of your target when shot is about 30 yards. If you’re shooting at targets that are close to you—like in skeet shooting—then a looser choke like an Improved Cylinder, or the obviously named Skeet choke is going to be a good choice.
