Since nonsurgical treatments are the most prevalent in current clinical practice, the authors of this study chose to evaluate the effects (benefits and harms) of conservative interventions: the figure-of-eight bandage versus the arm sling, for treating middle-third clavicle fractures.
24 Ιαν 2022 · Surgical treatment is advised for unstable distal clavicle fractures (UDCFs). Various kinds of internal fixation methods have been used, but the best fixation is still controversial.
Most clavicle fractures occur when a fall onto the shoulder or an outstretched arm puts enough pressure on the bone that it snaps or breaks. A broken collarbone can be very painful and can make it hard to move your arm. Many clavicle fractures can be treated by wearing a sling to keep the arm and shoulder from moving while the bone heals.
4 Μαΐ 2016 · This is the first randomised controlled trial comparing the figure-of-eight bandage versus the arm sling for treating clavicle fractures that follows the CONSORT Statement guidelines.
General Treatment Considerations. Initial treatment consists of ice, compressive dressing, and medication to relieve pain and reduce swelling. An arm sling, shoulder immobilizer, or figure-of-eight brace is usually recommended. Refrain from sporting activities until the fracture is healed, usually 6 or more weeks.
Most often, pain guides the treatment. If there is no displacement (separation) of the fracture, then nonoperative care with immobilization helps support the arm and ease the pain. The sling or brace may also serve as a reminder to limit activities that might cause fracture displacement in the early days of healing and bone remodeling.
