Yes, you need drawing software. I use Krita, which is one of the top free programs. Occasionally I check out videos/blogs of people rating different programs, but I haven't been convinced to change yet, except to perhaps Clip Studio Paint, which is not free. However, there are some random things that Krita is bad at, like dealing with text.

Good Drawing Tablet for a beginner and the difference. I want to start drawing a bit for fun and learn to just draw simple faces etc. and I want a cheap tablet, and found 2 which have a great price difference but apparently have no other differences.
Best: cintiq definitely. But I use a huion kamvas 16, it's like 1000 dollars less than the big cintiq and the differences are pretty minor. It's still a good display tablet that is basically a cintiq without breaking the bank to get a few extra bells and whistles.
