After years of experimentation and research in wanting the best way to play Metal Gear Solid 1 (completed it many times since 1999 when it came out in the UK) - the best but most complex is Emulation via RetroArch - Beetle PSX (HW).
'Metal Gear Solid 1' is probably the best place to start. If you try it and it's just a bit too rough, 'Metal Gear Solid 3' is also a good starting point due to it's more advanced and refined gameplay, and the fact that it's a prequel to the entire franchise also helps.
Start with mgs1. Don't start with 3 or 5 like some people are saying, especially 5. 5 is the very last one to play. tldr just do release order. Metal Gear Solid is the best starting point. Tou can start with metal gear and metal gear 2 if you want but you better be ready cus they aged quite a lot.
