Use a high-quality brush or roller, and apply a thin, even coat of primer to the cedar siding. Be sure to cover all the areas, including any knots or uneven spots. It’s important to work in sections, so you don’t miss any spots or let the primer dry before you’ve covered the entire surface.
11 Σεπ 2022 · For best results, fresh siding should be pre-primed on all six sides with a stain-blocking primer and top coated with 100% acrylic-latex paint. Alkyd-oil primers are recommended, but one may choose a high-quality latex primer as long as it contains stain blockers.

1 Ιουν 2018 · Within two weeks of their installation, prime the shingles with a stain-blocking primer. (If you wait longer, recondition the surface as shown in step 3 above.) Apply the primer with a 4-inch brush, starting along the overlap and painting a length of about 4 feet.
We have new cedar shingles on the house, currently being painted with Benjamin Moore.... #100 'long oil' alkyd primer, then a lo-lustre latex topcoat. Primer is on now, so I can't speak from experience... yet... but I had extensive discussions with two chemists at Moore about this exact thing and they both recommended the #100 right away.
10 Νοε 2018 · This experience strengthens all other reasons not painting new Cedar shingles, sidings or roofs. If new shingle siding, no need to strip or try removing old paint, (not that you could do this 100% anyway), priming & painting is one of a solid type coating, apt to blister, bubble, chip, or peel.
