Race in BG3 doesn't really matter as much now as DnD in general is moving away from stats. Drawback for Humans is lack of Darkvision, which you can get as Warlock. Thematically Tieflings are still a solid choice.
Best race for a Warlock? Undubitably the Half Elf. Shield + Mage Armour + Potent Robes + Cloak of Protection caps at around 22ac (Shield +2) (Mage Armour 13+Dex Mod) (Potent +2) (Cloak +1). This means if you have 16 Dex, you get 8ac, on top of your base 14ac, which is 22ac. In contrast Medium Armour + Cloak only gives 17 ac.
