The first one on our 10 best ROM hacks for Nuzlocke challenges is Pokemon Polished Crystal. This game is a GBC ROM hack but is just as good. The interesting part is that the game has a built-in Nuzlocke mode.
Battle Factory: Just Rental Battles from later Pokemon games recreated in Gen 1. Pretty good. C tier: Pokemon Insurgence - great for a casual playthrough, pacing suffers in a nuzelocke as it's essentially a really long boss rush with decent boss fights but boring routes in between

Nuzlocke is a type of Pokémon game play where you have to catch all the Pokémon and only use the first Pokémon in your party that faints.
Sacred Gold/Storm Silver: Classic Drayano hack. Very difficult, but balances Johto a lot better than I've ever played it. Really enjoyable to play through but probably not good for a 1st nuzlocke. Renegade Platinum: Probably Drayano's best hack. Just a really, really, good game, with some VERY tough fights, but a huge variety of pokemon.
If you're looking for a vanilla ROM to nuzlocke, I'd recommend either Fire Red or Emerald. Both are fairly forgiving. I also found Black 2 to be easy, but I think I just got lucky. If you're looking for a Romhack, Pokemon Unbound and Pokemon Gaia are both great.
