You have loose stitches, or your incision comes open. You have signs of a blood clot in your leg (called a deep vein thrombosis), such as: Pain in your calf, back of the knee, thigh, or groin. Redness or swelling in your leg. You have signs of infection, such as: Increased pain, swelling, warmth, or redness.
Toe amputation is usually performed as a last resort when medical treatment fails, or the toe cannot be salvaged. Complications of toe amputation include pain, swelling, bruising, blood clotting, and hematoma (blood clot).
An amputation may be needed for many reasons, including if: you have a severe infection in your limb. your limb has been affected by gangrene (often as a result of peripheral arterial disease) you have complications from diabetes. there's serious trauma to your limb, such as a crush or blast wound.

What are the risks of treatment? As with any operation there are risks involved which vary according to your health but typically include: Phantom limb sensations (common).
