28 Μαΐ 2024 · A pioneering study has used extensive global datasets and machine learning to map the activities of seafloor invertebrate animals, including worms, clams and shrimps, across the entire ocean, revealing for the first time critical factors that support and maintain the health of marine ecosystems.
Ecosystems organized around bodies of water are called aquatic ecosystems. Texas has six kinds of aquatic ecosystems (Fig. 6.1): Aquifers and springs; Rivers and streams; Lakes and ponds; Wetlands; Bays and estuaries; Ocean (Gulf of Mexico) Aquifers and springs. Aquifers are underground reservoirs and rivers of water. The water they contain is ...
Texas has over 1.2 million acres of freshwater lakes, ponds, and reservoirs in 2013. These bodies of lentic water (water that is not flowing) are among Texas’ most -known and popular aquatic ecosystems .
These differences give rise to the high biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems along the Texas coast. The coast from Sabine Lake, on the border between Texas and Louisiana, to Galveston Bay is characterized by extensive wide wetlands that go from freshwater, to brackish, to saltwater as you move closer to the Gulf.
1 Σεπ 2024 · Notably, river-lake connectivity is pivotal in shaping differential responses to multiple stressors. Our results highlight a strong correlation between biodiversity alterations and land use within a 2–5 km radius and 0.05–2.5 km from the shorelines of Lakes Dongting and Taihu, respectively.
1 Ιουλ 2011 · Species lists for 14 of the world's largest lakes reveal that 15% of the global biodiversity (the total number of species) of freshwater fishes, 9% of noninsect freshwater invertebrate biodiversity, and 2% of aquatic insect biodiversity live in this handful of lakes.
5 Φεβ 2020 · Researchers from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, together with colleagues from the University of British Columbia, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other institutions, have created the first unified global biodiversity map covering species both on land and in the ocean.
