12 Δεκ 2022 · Placing an ecosystem in a jar in your home or even integrating it in your interior design or hardscaping elements can make your home look more green, alive, as well as stylish. Nowadays it’s modern to be green and have plants in your place, so why not adding a biosphere in a jar.
Children can learn about the different building blocks that it takes to create a flourishing ecosystem by creating a miniature version of the natural world. With this biosphere activity, students can use different plants, seeds and soil to create something that will be teeming with life.
Fizzics Education curated a thoughtful and hands-on experience for the children, incorporating practical, skill-based learning activities and followed by a science presentation at the end of the event involving liquid nitrogen.

Looking for biosphere teaching ideas? Prepare your students before launching into Earth’s spheres. First, kids must understand photosynthesis. Second, teach how energy and matter move through an ecosystem. Then they’ll be ready to analyze interactions between the spheres.
To make a biosphere or ecosphere, put some soil and sand in the bottom of a large, colourless glass bottle, the size of a demijohn. Add some stones and fill it with water. Add animals such as protozoa, water snails, water fleas or water shrimps, algae and aquatic plants and seal the container.
Step-by-Step. With the help of an adult, find and clean a clear glass jar (a Mason jar works perfect!). The jar can be any size you like. You will be collecting 4 primary things for your jar: standing water you find outdoors, soil/soot, plants, moss/algae.
