Looking for the bond valuation formula? Download our free Excel template with three ready-made methods to determine the theoretical value of a bond.
The formula for bond valuation is the Present Value of Future Payments divided by the appropriate discount rate, which is termed as Yield to Maturity (YTM). Specifically: Bond Value = PV of Interest Payments + PV of Face Value
In this example we use the PV function to calculate the present value of the 6 equal payments plus the $1000 repayment that occurs when the bond reaches maturity. The PV function is configured as follows:
17 Ιουν 2024 · We discuss different bonds and ways to calculate the bond price in Excel using FV and PRICE function along with conventional bond formulas.
30 Ιουν 2024 · To determine the value of a bond today—for a fixed principal (par value) to be repaid in the future—we can use an Excel spreadsheet.
15 Ιουλ 2024 · The formula is =PV(market interest rate, years to maturity, coupon payment, face value). The PV function is crucial here. It will calculate the present value of the bond by discounting future cash flows (coupon payments and face value) to the present.
