CDC developed the Booster Seat Planning Guide to assist States, Tribes, Localities, and Territories (STLTs) with assessing, planning, and implementing improved booster seat laws to reduce crash injuries and deaths among children.
Vehicle Seat Location Requirements Children are safer when properly restrained in rear vehicle seating positions. Whenever possible secure the Graco booster seat in the center position of the seat directly behind the front seats. However, this position is often equipped with a lap belt only and cannot be used. The vehicle seat MUST face forward.
Use a booster seat until the belt fits correctly. A booster seat is often needed until 4ft 9 in (57” or 145 cm) tall. Your child may be 12 years old before ready for an adult safety belt. Children should ride in an adult seat belt in the back seat once they outgrow a booster seat.
Vehicle head restraints are required, with head support to at least the tops of the child’s ears. For both high and low back boosters, both a lap and shoulder belt are required—never a lap belt only.
For small babies, rolled up receiving blankets can be placed on either side of the head and body for support (Picture 6). Never place anything behind the child’s back or under the child unless it comes with the car seat.
19 Σεπ 2014 · If the child is riding in a backless booster, or if the high back booster requires it, be sure there is head support from a vehicle head restraint behind the child’s head to at least the tops of the child’s ears.
Types of booster seats. A high back booster seat provides support behind your child’s head. High back booster seats are recommended if your car has low seat backs and no head rests, or for younger children who may fall asleep in the car, so they can lean their heads against the side of the seat.
