A booster seat can only be used with a lap AND shoulder belt. A child must have head support to the tops of his or her ears. This can come from a high vehicle-seat back, the vehicle's built-in headrests or a high-back booster seat. Always read the instructions that came with your booster seat.
How to adjust the head support on a Booster Seat. When it comes to the head supports on our high-back boosters, you want to go ahead and lower that head support. So the shoulder belt guide is about 1/2 an inch to an inch above the child's shoulders.
