It was the coupons and the people treating the stores as a library that really did them in. I bought a ton of stuff at Borders, but always with at least a 20% coupon. Usually 30% off, if I recall. If I didn't have a coupon, I'd just buy online.
I looked on Amazon to find the prices of some books (both physical and Kindle versions) I wanted and headed to Borders. Pretty much everything was only 20% off.
Borders Group, Inc. was an American multinational book and music retailer based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. In its final year, the company employed about 19,500 people throughout the U.S., primarily in its Borders and Waldenbooks stores. [1][2] At the beginning of 2010, the company operated 511 Borders superstores in the United States.

21 Οκτ 2021 · When it went bankrupt, Borders was so big that its failure stranded over $200 million in unused gift cards, triggering a multi-year legal saga that ended in the Supreme Court declining to involve itself in the issue. Who knew a bookstore would help set a precedent that gift-card holders are basically out of luck when a company goes bankrupt?
