I'm a MO2 Dev and I saw a lot of confusion on feature differences between managers recently. 10 Αυγ 2013 · Here are my steps: 1. I Installed Skyrim and all expansions via Steam and ran the game once. 2. I installed the required programs needed for mods such as SKSE, Nexus Mod Manager, and BOSS. 3. I installed my selection of mods via the Nexus Mod Manager. 4. I ran BOSS which setup the load order.
BOSS is designed to assist mod users in avoiding detrimental conflicts, by setting the correct load order for the plugins they have installed. BOSS also provides thousands of plugin-specific messages, including usage notes, Bash Tag suggestions, requirements, incompatibilities, bug warnings and installation mistake notifications.
There are really only three to choose from: Vortex, Mod Organizer 2 (MO2) and Nexus Mod Manager (NMM). Go with either Vortex or MO2. The meta on which is more difficult to use seems to have changed.
An optimised "Skyrim" mod load order will improve performance and reduce crashes. BOSS will sort your load order, check for conflicts, warnings, patches and errors. TES5Edit will clean any "dirty" mods.

It uses BOSS Userlist rules to customise the order in which mods should be loaded and allows you to specify the load order for unknown mods without editing the BOSS Masterlist.
