11 Ιαν 2022 · On April 20, 2010, the oil-drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, operated by BP in the Gulf of Mexico, exploded and sank, resulting in the largest oil spill in the history of marine oil-drilling operations.
1. Prior to the filing of these cases, the Debtors engaged in hedging activities with BP Energy Company (“BPEC”) to reduce exposure to market fluctuations in oil and natural gas prices. As the market moved away from the Debtors’ position, they became indebted to BPEC.
BP’s filings identified the issue regarding the financial status of Seadrill Partners and its affiliates, which have been known publicly since June 2020. Moreover, the Debtors’ ultimate corporate parent, Seadrill Limited, and certain other affiliates filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017.

29 Φεβ 2024 · In 2017, Braggs filed this action against BP Exploration & Production, Inc. (BP) and affiliated companies to recover for the alleged injuries he sustained during the Deepwater Horizon cleanup.1 According to Braggs, his exposure to crude oil and chemical dispersants caused him to develop several medical conditions.
A. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill prompted hundreds of claims, which were ultimately assigned to the Honorable Carl J. Barbier as part of a multi-district litigation (“MDL”). This appeal concerns the claims for personal injuries resulting from spill-related exposures.
