27 Ιουλ 2013 · According to existing records, the town of Camalig was established between the years 1569 and 1570 by Spanish explorers under the leadership of Luis Enriquez de Guzman, a Spanish military officer who explored the islands of Masbate, Ticao, Burias and par- (sic) of Albay.
In 1845, Fr. Miguel Barcela built the church façade, the escuela Catolica and the bell tower. The church was finished in 1848. On November 1987, the church was damaged by super typhoon Sisang, (international name: Nina) losing its roof, ceiling and beams, but was subsequently repaired.

25 Ιουν 2012 · History abounds in the province of Albay as the people have kept alive the heritage of their ancestors. The Camalig Catholic Church, as well as the relics and artifacts from pre-Spanish times housed within, display the unique historical riches of the province.
14 Νοε 2017 · The church was built in 1837 with the large bell tower and adjoining Catholic school completed in 1845. While it isn’t terribly old, it is still almost 200 years old. Fortunately, the church has been very well maintained all this time. It is naturally the center of religious life here in this town.
5 Μαΐ 2021 · Throughout its long history, the Camalig Church and its associated institutions were administered by many prominent Franciscans. Two of them, Fr. Pedro Bautista, and Fr. Francisco de San Miguel, were martyred in Japan and later canonized as saints.
