Molten armor is an armor set consisting of the Molten Helmet, Molten Breastplate, and Molten Greaves. It has the highest defense of any pre-Hardmode armor set.
It's perfectly fine to wear Ebonwood armor, Shadewood armor, or other basic, easy-to-craft armors until you can get your hands on a real armor set like Iron armor Lead armor and platinum armor or Tungsten armor. Whatever you wear at the start of the game will be replaced very quickly.
The easiest armor to get early on, IMO, is Meteor. All you have to do is break a Shadow Orb, and cross your fingers that a meteor lands. Once one lands, either bomb up the meteor or mine it up with a pickaxe.

Bronze Armor is a mid-pre-hardmode armor. It is crafted from Bronze at an anvil. To make a full set of Bronze armor, you'll need 52 Bronze ingots (104 tin ore and 104 copper ore) which are crafted at a Blast Furnace.
