Any progress toward a rank that is begun after Jan. 1, 2024, must use the requirements as they are presented on scouting.org. All requirements for the Scout rank must be completed as a member of a troop or as a Lone Scout.

Merit badges, badges of rank, and Eagle Palms may be earned by a registered Scout or a qualified Venturer or Sea Scout. Scouts may earn these awards until their 18th birthday.
The requirements for Eagle Scout include earning 21 merit badges, 14 of which are required as of July 1, 2022. Any merit badges after the 21 merit badges may qualify for Eagle Palms.
