Yes you can, I literally just got hired with only customer service experience and having just re-enrolled back into community college for an IT program. Certs always help but you don't need them to get into an entry level position.
Our "enterprise help desk" will ONLY hire people without experience. Period. Our help desk also does not function like a traditional help desk. They answer the phone, get the name, cb number and sometimes the host. Then it's just escalated to whatever department. No troubleshooting. No training on the job. Nothing.
Help desk is more than just tech skills. They want someone with great soft skills (customer service ) that can get along with the team. Implement this if you have any customer service jobs in your resume and it’ll help you stand out, even with no experience.
I just got my A+ certification yesterday and feel like I'm ready to start the task of actually getting into the field. Like I said, I have no previous help desk experience but tons of customer service experience. Any feedback on my resume before i start carpet bombing Indeed with it is appreciated!
I recently received a Help Desk job offer for $15/ hour, although the pay is low I am extremely excited about this opportunity because I have no prior job experience nor any certifications within the field and know how hard it is to break into IT.
Adjust resume, keep applying to help desk. It’s OK to widen your search to include things other than help desk (Junior NOC, field technician, etc) but if you’re having trouble with the quintessential entry level position then going around it probably won’t help much.
To land a job that pays 38k, taking phone call and answering emails. The truth of the matter, is that helpdesk roles are not technically challenging at all, and place more emphasis on customer support, rather than your technical aptitude.
