I've been saving money to purchase a brand new/or used oboe. I've had my eyes on Bulgheroni for a long time, specifically the Opera model in Violetwood. Bulgheroni is not as big as other makers (Loree, Marigaux, Howarth...) so I have had a tough time searching for photos or reviews.
I play a Bulgheroni oboe, after years of being a die-hard Fossati and Patricola player, and I have to say it's one of the finest oboes I have ever played in my life. The sound is dark and rich, the low notes speak with ease, and it is very, very reed friendly. I also really like the ergonomics.
Choosing the best oboe is difficult, but I have selected one for each category that stands out: Bulgheroni Student, Yamaha YOB-441 Intermediate, and F. Lorée Paris Professional. Why Are Oboes So Pricey?

The oboe that I played was the “Artist” model, which is a full-conservatory standard professional instrument, equivalent to a standard Loree C+3, Fox 400, Howarth S5, etc.
For about the same price, a Bulgheroni FULL Conservatory system professional oboe ("Artist" model) can be obtained. CHAUVET - Excellent maker. Imported and sold by Laubin in the 1950s- serial numbers: numbers only.
