The hosts file has no extension but some system files do have extensions and it may be helpful to also see the file extensions for all the files.

21 Μαΐ 2015 · 3) Vous l'enregistrez sous le nom " hosts.txt ". 4) Vous le renommez ensuite en " hosts " (tout court, sans l'extension .txt) 5) Vous mettez ce fichier " hosts " dans C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\ etc. Nota : Ce fichier hosts est le fichier de base sur W8.1. Il est totalement neutre en l'état, et n'empêche aucune connexion à certaines IP.

21 Ιαν 2016 · I ask this question because on 64-bit Windows, some 32-bit third-party applications access that directory, which I think isn't special/meaningful to the OS - only C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc is. Any links to official MS documentations or official MS statements are appreciated.
14 Μαρ 2017 · 1. On the View tab of Windows File Explorer, check the box 'Hidden Items'. 2. If you still cannot see the hosts file, click 'Options' on the view tab, in the resulting dialog, click the view tab. In the list uncheck the option 'Hide protected Operating System Files'. Then you will be able to see the hosts file.
