- Fingerprint Rolling Overview
Authorized by California statute, the DOJ has processed State of California and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint-based background checks for decades. While all criminal background check requests must be authorized by statute, some are mandatory while others are permissive.
Pursuant to California Penal Code section 11124, the purpose of a record review is to provide an individual or designee indicated on the background check request with a copy of the individual's record or notice of a No Record existence.
If you are applying for employment, license, certificate or permit with an applicant agency requiring a background check, you must get the instructions and the forms required for fingerprinting services from that agency.
