Calcium chloride is an inorganic compound, a salt with the chemical formula CaCl 2. It is a white crystalline solid at room temperature, and it is highly soluble in water. It can be created by neutralising hydrochloric acid with calcium hydroxide.
Chemical properties. Calcium chloride can serve as a source of calcium ions in solution, for instance for precipitation because many calcium compounds are insoluble: 3 CaCl 2 (aq) + 2 K 3 PO 4 (aq) → Ca 3 (PO 4) 2 (s) + 6 KCl (aq) Molten CaCl 2 can be electrolysed to give calcium metal: CaCl 2 (l) → Ca (s) + Cl 2 (g)

Calcium chloride is a white to off-white highly hygroscopic solid. Also known as: Calcium chloride anhydrous; Calcium dichloride. Molecular formula: CaCl 2. Elements: Calcium (Ca), Chlorine (Cl) Molecular weight: 110.978 g/mol. Molar volume: 51.618 cm³/mol. CAS Registry Number (CAS RN): 10043-52-4.
Physical properties: Calcium chloride is found as an odorless white powder, granules or flakes. It has a density of 2.15 g/mL, melting point of 782 °C and a high boiling point over 1600 °C. Chemical properties: CaCl 2 is highly water soluble, hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from air) and deliquescent (absorbs enough water to turn into liquid).
The density of CaCl2 depends on the concentration of the solution. A 1 M solution of CaCl2 has a density of approximately 1.4 g/mL, while a 3 M solution has a density of approximately 1.6 g/mL. The density of solid CaCl2 is 2.15 g/cm³.
