Rated the "Fifth Most Difficult Day Hike in the United States" by Backpacker Magazine, the hike starts on the desert floor of Palm Springs (near the cactus) and gains thousands of feet of elevation leading to San Jacinto Peak (up in the clouds).
Overview. This section of the Cactus to Clouds trail covers the distance between the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Aerial Tramway station along the ridge. This trail is often broken into sections that range from 10 miles at the shortest to 20 miles at the longest.

You share pathway with the Skyline Trail majority of the way up, and have opportunity to snapshot the sunrise as you traverse along your half-a-day's journey to the summit.
The Cactus to Clouds hike is long. Visitors start on the desert floor and climb to 10,804 feet. The gain is over 8,000 feet in the first 12 miles and much of this is hiking in dry arid desert conditions.
