Caedmon's Hymn. Caedmon (614 - 680) Cædmon was an Anglo-Saxon herdsman attached to the double monastery of Streonæshalch (657–681). Originally ignorant of the art of song, Cædmon learned to compose one night in the course of a dream.
Every year at St Hilda's College, Oxford, a new musical setting of the Hymn of Caedmon is commissioned for performance in their Founder's Day service. This is my rendition, recorded by members of the St Hilda's College choir and conducted by Dr Jonathan Williams.

Cædmon’s Hymn is the name given to a poem recorded in Old English in some manuscripts of Bede’s Historia Ecclesiastica, an ecclesiastical history of the English people written in the early eighth century at Wearmouth-Jarrow in Northumbria.
