10 Αυγ 2013 · The CAGED system provides a logical way of visualizing the neck using basic chord shapes you've most likely known for quite some time. But it doesn't stop there: The CAGED system is just as useful for scales and licks.
The CAGED system works by using common open chord shapes to map out the guitar neck into five distinct sections. It helps simplify the fretboard by revealing the relationship between common open chord shapes and note/interval arrangement on the guitar.
The C-A-G-E-D System provides a simple way of grouping melodies with their related chord shapes. That is useful for understanding the physical structure of guitar harmony, hearing note–to–chord relationships, and using chords and licks purposefully in your music.
